With pain comes progress. With extreme pain comes this pivotal moment in humanity’s evolution. There was a time before George Floyd’s death, and now we live in a post George Floyd world.
I see “Liberty and Justice for All” as the ultimate American moonshot goal. Slavery, Convict Leasing, Jim Crow, Lynchings, Segregation, Mass Incarceration, War on Drugs, Mandatory Minimums, Police Brutality — this is Black American history. This is American history. This history is not erased or past, this is our current situation.
Racism in America is not only individual, it is very much structural and systemic. Our systems are unequal and unjust. Economic disparities are designed inside these systems — housing, education, health care, employment, surveillance, criminal justice, to name a few.
"Money Talk 1290" Podcast
Money Talk 1290 - Presented By Arlington Financial Advisors
Marketing & Communications Specialist Jacob Tell featured on Money Talks Podcast episode recorded Monday, April 13, 2020 in Santa Barbara, CA
Feature on The VERY Visible Business Podcast with David Avrin
I had a blast being interviewed by David Avrin on his The VERY Visible Business Podcast.
Summary
In this week’s episode, Jacob Tell, co-founder of Oniracom, shares his journey on how their company has helped national music artists navigate and adapt to the profound changes in digital marketing.
Advancements in technology have made a huge impact on business — no more so than in the music industry. Artists used to make money selling their albums and tickets to shows. Easy access to digital downloads has forever altered the music industry and driven a shift in both mindset and strategy for artists. When they can no longer rely on simply selling products, smart companies build tribes!
Key Takeaways
Super-serve the superfan.
When you have established the connection and relationship with your customers, you can sell them a multitude of items and solutions.
Tell a story that people want to connect with emotionally.
As business owners, part of our primary responsibility is to make our tribe want what we have.
Value your people and turn them into superfans who are going to drive a lot more revenue than selling products to a lot of people.
One of the great ways to provide a sense of belonging to your tribe is to build and cultivate a “nurtured” community.
Top 25 Shows of 2018
The latter part of 2017 brought the most major change to my life in a super compacted period of time. Some highlights: Marital separation leading to divorce, moving my office & staff after 8 years at the previous location, a new building including sizable construction project, the Thomas Fire, the Montecito debris flow, a stunted 2018 economic start, and a promise.
A promise to self to be true to my callings. A major truth of mine: music is one of my spiritual gateways, and the band Phish is my ultimate church. 2018 was a year to behold. My business partner Sean and made a decision to see as much Phish as possible, along with other amazing music to fill in the gaps. We hugely succeeded!
Together we experienced Phish 23 times in 2018 (would’ve been 26 had Curveball not been canceled), their bassist Mike Gordon twice, and their guitarist Trey Anastasio solo acoustic, along with a couple Phish cover bands. I saw live music more than 90 nights throughout 2018.
Creating a top 25 shows of 2018 list is a symbol of my transitional winning year. The year I reclaimed so much, and made a decision to here-forth live my life as I want and need. No excuses.
